Urras Coimhearsnachd Bhradhghair agus Arnoil (UCBA)
UCBA approached TIG for assistance with their development project to refurbish the Bragar Primary School into Visitor Accommodation, Community Café, Laundry, Community Room, and Exhibition Space. This project seeks to provide services in the villages of Bragar and Arnol using and promoting the gaelic language, its focus on tourism seeks to bring visitors to the area so that they can learn and benefit from our unique gaelic culture, natural environment and wildlife. Visitor accommodation of this kind is not provided in the West side villages.
TIG assisted UCBA with funding applications, tendering and selecting a design team, and developing the project to RIBA stage 3.
UCBA are taking this project forward to a Community Assets Lottery application, as well as other funders and TIG will continue to support the organisation through to the completion of the refurbishment.
At all stages UCBA have driven the project forward to meet the needs of their community as identified in a variety of community consultations and community events.
“TIG is an essential member of our project group as they bring skills to the table not normally present on voluntary committees. I would recommend TIG highly to any community group thinking of embarking on a project which involves building work. They not only have expertise regarding the building work, but they have a clear understanding of the difficulties faced by small rural communities trying to foster social and economic development in their area.”
