Home Safety Service
The Home Safety Service focuses on promoting all aspects of safety in the homes of older and vulnerable owner occupiers by conducting home safety visits to reduce injuries resulting from slips, trips, and falls and ensuring the necessary alarms are present and working.
Working in partnership with the OT department enables delivery of the much valued temporary ramping service.
Temporary Ramp: Kallin, North Uist
Donnie Macdonald, Home Safety Coordinator-
The Occupational Therapy Department in Balivanich contacted Home Safety with an urgent request for temporary ramping on behalf of a married couple, both recently disabled through illness.
The woman was bed ridden with terminal illness and her husband had developed complications following surgery which resulted in him being unable to walk, and unable to manage the steps at the front door he could not be discharged from hospital.
The Home Safety service attended two days after receiving the referral and the installation was completed in one day.
The OT expressed her gratitude on behalf of the family, saying “I can`t thank you enough for pulling out all the stops for our clients. The family are so appreciative and they can’t thank you enough”.
